Dr. Dror Baitel is celebrated for his virtuosity and versatility across a wide range of musical genres and is sought after as a collaborator, performing with artists and organizations around the world. Recent events include concerts with the Detroit Chamber Winds and Strings, the Carnegie Hall Citywide series with soprano Meghan Kasanders, and a collaboration performance with Marina Abramović in Shanghai, China, presented as part of the opening for her ‘Transforming Energy’ exhibit.
Baitel released his debut album Breaking Glass Ceilings: Music by Unruly Women with violist Rose Wollman. The album debuted at number 2 on the Billboard Traditional Classical chart. This year will also see the release of an album of music by Rachmaninoff and Barber with soprano Meghan Kasanders titled That Time of Evening, and an album of vocal music by Latin-Jewish composers with soprano Maria Brea. In 2026 Baitel will release an album titled Becoming America with violist Rose Wollman and soprano Maria Brea. Becoming America is a program of new music by underrepresented composers celebrating the promise and ideals of the United States and urging us to live up to our inspiring rhetoric. A passionate ensemble leader and ambassador for musical theater, Baitel was part of the original music team behind Lin Manuel Miranda's groundbreaking production Hamilton. He served as pianist and conductor for the world premiere of the hit production Dear Evan Hansen, and was part of the Broadway teams of Mary Poppins and Matilda, and Lincoln Center Theater’s The King and I. Baitel also conducted the Memphis Symphony Orchestra and held a distinguished one-year visiting position as the music director of opera at the Scheidt School of Music at the University of Memphis. Baitel is committed to sharing his passion for excellence in music with his home community. He performs frequently with the South Bend Symphony Orchestra and works with the South Bend Lyric Opera Last year, he served as Music Director for La Cage aux Folles at the South Bend Civic Theater, earning him a BroadwayWorld award nomination for best music direction and orchestra performance. In addition, he frequently collaborates with the Jewish Federation of Saint Joseph Valley and various other organizations to bring music to northern Indiana. Baitel’s musical journey is underpinned by a commitment to education. In his academic position, he not only imparts his extensive knowledge and expertise to aspiring musicians but also plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of opera and musical theater. His leadership and mentorship inspire the next generation of talent, fostering a legacy of artistic achievement and innovation. Baitel currently serves as the Music Director for Opera and Musical Theater, as well as a Collaborative piano faculty member at the University of Notre Dame. He performs numerous recitals on campus every year, in addition to the annual Notre Dame opera and musical. Baitel holds a DMA and a MM from the Juilliard School, as well as a BM from Mannes College of Music. |
